Why Homeschool?

I suppose the first question people ask is "Why do you homeschool?"

I suppose the answer is pretty simple to us.  In the town we live in, our high school has a bad reputation.  It's known for drug abuse, alcohol abuse, teen pregnancies, and dropouts.  THAT is not what we want for our children.  We want a better life for them, one full of innocence and trust in their parents.  We want them to see the world more practically, for its good things and bad.  We could have sent them up through school until those pivotal last four years and then yanked them out to study at home, but by then the damage would have already been done.

When we called our local superintendents office to ask if there was a 4 year old program locally, the receptionist laughed at us.  She laughed and said we were rediculous for thinking a small school system would have that kind of program.  Well, considering there are about 7 schools in our system, that is not particularly small, and there is a town 15 miles away that has one school which is K4-8, that's right, they have a K4, so why wouldn't we ask if our town had one?

We also called as the time was getting closer for our daughter to enter Kindergarten (because we'd already established the fact that she couldn't enroll sooner) and when we called and asked which school she would be attending based on where we lived, the receptionists answer was, "this year kids on your road are going to...".  That answer caught us by surprise, so we asked, "what do you mean, this year?"  She went on to inform us that whichever school had the budget, got the kids for that year.  So our daughter could have ended up going to 3 different elementary schools in 3 years if the budget had worked out that way.

So...NOT okay with us!  In the end, we did our research and decided that homeschool was the way to go.  We have jumped in whole-heartily and are looking forward to a bright and educated future for our young ones.
